The son of the late President Ronald Reagan threatened to forsake the Republican Party last night.

In a series of tweets responding to remarks by Donald Trump, Michael Reagan, President of The Reagan Legacy Foundation, registered his outrage and called on Reince Preibus, head of the Republican National Committee (RNC)  to “take a stand”.

Reagan’s anger was sparked by Trump’s allegation that Hillary Clinton was “not loyal” to her spouse, former President Bill Clinton.

In a campaign filled with noise, blowback by party stalwarts is easily overlooked. The comments left by Reagan are significant. They document the internal split of the GOP as its nominee pushes the boundaries of decency beyond the point of no return.

In so many words, Reagan stated that he could not support the nominee, the GOP or the Republican National Committee. Perhaps his most damning tweet is this:

My father would not support this kind of campaign,if this is what the Republican Party wants leave us Reagans out.

During the course of his tweet storm, he lost followers, and it appears that Carly Fiorina was one who disengaged with Reagan.

I’ll let Reagan’s tweets speak.
