Haiku – September

I hoped to write one haiku a day but this was an extremely active, tense month. In October, I will throw in a few tanka for variation.

The black pitch of dawn

unfolds a golden lustre.

So death receives light.

The speakers voice booms.

The daughters eyes reveal all –

volume is not truth.

Barred face, shining eyes,

a paw on my backdoor steps –

cheeky raccoon.

To Do list undone.

Cross it out, start again.

Fall procrastination.

A gecko sighting.

Transparent-skinned infant

Quick as lightning.

Three kids with hands out –

Gimme a dollar, says one.

Walgreens, Sunday night.

Raucus morning joy –

Carolina wren wakes

and song fills the air.

Whitest white of night,

crowning star of blackest black.

Full moon at midnight
